  Career changes feel frightening because people often look at themselves through the narrowest possible description of what they do. “I am a teacher.” “I am a salesperson.” “I work in manufacturing.” “I am an office manager.” “I have been in hospitality for twenty years.” Then they look at another industry and assume none of their experience applies. But a job title is only the label placed over a much larger collection of capabilities. A teacher may have experience presenting information, organizing groups, resolving conflict, planning, evaluating performance, communicating with different personalities, managing deadlines, and creating instructional material. A restaurant manager may know hiring, scheduling, inventory, customer service, financial controls, employee development, operations, sales, and problem solving.
